3rd Quarter Technology Work

HAPPY SPRING BREAK!
CHECK BACK HERE ON 4/13 WHEN QUARTER 4 BEGINS

THE 3RD QUARTER CLOSED ON FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 2020. I WILL CONTINUE TO ACCEPT 3RD QUARTER WORK UP TO
MONDAY, 4/13/2020!
Project 7: Q3 Digital Portfolio
Monday, March 23, 2020
Good Morning! All Digital Portfolio slides are due TODAY for Q3. I will be grading these today and tomorrow. I will be posting your grades and my comments in Google classroom. If you have any questions, or wish to make changes to your slides after receiving your grade, please email me. This is your last assignment for Q3 in Technology class. Please check back here April 13, after the school break.
Friday, March 20, 2020
Good Morning! Happy First day of Spring! Are you seeing signs of Spring where you live too? I have a mother goose sitting on her nest in my backyard, and daffodils blooming in my garden. These things remind me that there is much that can still bring us joy each day. I think of you all each day, and hope you and your families are all healthy and finding joy in some of life's simple pleasures too.
Today you should be COMPLETING your 5th and final slide. Did you remember to include the following on each slide?

1. Title(Name of class- capitalize/no abbreviations) & Subtitle (Name of assignment)
2. Unit paragraph (what did the teacher assign)
 3. Artifact paragraph (what did YOU do- in detail)
4. Artifact (Sample of your work)
5. Focus/ Creativity (each slide creatively different from the others)

For those of you who got a late start, you have the weekend to complete this. Please attach and submit this assignment on Monday. I will be making a list of any work that is not turned in , and I will be contacting parents.
I cannot grade how well some of you are playing Minecraft  so, please do not forget!!! This is your last assignment for Q3, so do your best work. As I stated before, your Digital Citizenship posters will be finished in Q4. Have a good weekend!
Thursday, March 19, 2020
Good Morning! Today you should be completing your 4th slide. Yesterday brought another good question from one of you! What photos can or should you use for your Exploratory slides? You can use photos from the internet for these 2 slides. For example, a photo of your instrument or sheet music for band; a basketball for gym. You can photograph your Spanish worksheets.

If you are making a slide about Art you can include a photo of your wire sculpture and, tell me about the proportions of the human body. How many heads high is it? Answer: 8. What fraction of the body are the legs? Answer: 1/2. Perhaps you could try drawing someone from your family at home using the correct proportions, photograph your drawing and include that with the photo of your wire sculpture. If you do this, remember these 10 simple steps:

1. Make a mark at the top and bottom of the paper.
2. Make a mark halfway between for the hip line,
3. Mark halfway between the hips and the top mark, and again halfway between that mark and the top,
4. Make the head!
5. Shoulders slightly below.
6. Draw an X from shoulders to hips.
7. Draw 2 sets of ovals in for the legs...knees are halfway from hips to feet.
8. Where do your elbows line up? At the waist!(middle of the X)
9. Wrists are at the hip line and hands on the thighs.
10. Draw a 5 line face- eyes are halfway down the head- they really are!

Add some details of clothing ...and Voila! You have done it.

Please keep emailing me any questions you may have. If you are unsure, there are probably several other students who are too. This helps me to help you!
Wednesday, March 18, 2020
Good Morning! Thank you for the good questions you have been emailing to me. One student asked if he should be adding the 5 slides to the original 8 in the portfolio we started in Q2, and the answer is YES! I realize that some of you worked in Powerpoint, and if that is you, simply create your 5 new slides in Google slides and we will combine them when we return to school.
Today, you should be working on your 3rd slide. These are due on Monday, so I will be grading them on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. You can expect to see your grades posted in Powerschool by the middle of next week. I will be contacting parents of any students who have not turned in this assignment, so don't forget! Due to our extended absence from school, we will finish the Digital Citizenship posters after we return in Q4. That means that this will be your last grade for Technology in Q3, so do your best work.

While you are working, don't forget to scroll down on this page, and open the instructions and rubric from March 16, on your screen. This is a good way to make sure you don't forget anything.

I don't know about you, but I miss you all already! I hope you are all working hard, but also taking breaks to enjoy the sunshine, and all the signs of Spring around us!
Tuesday, March 17, 2020
Good Morning! Your goal each day should be to create one of your 5 slides for your portfolio. Remember, this is a CREATIVE portfolio! Are you using different colors? Different typefaces? Are you moving your type and photos to different places or do all your slides look the same? Each slide should look uniquely different. Also remember, the first paragraph explains what the TEACHER assigned to the entire class. The second paragraph tells me what YOU did and why you chose this assignment. These should be 2 distinctly different paragraphs.

Do you remember that in Q2 , you were asked to create 8 slides including 5 academic slides- Math, Science, Social Studies, LA, and Art OR Tech?

In Q3, your 5 new slides will include:  3- Academic slides- you should choose from: Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, Technology or Art, and 2 Exploratory class slides. If you do this correctly, you will have an additional slide for at least 2 and possibly all 3 of your academic classes, (depending on if you choose Art or Tech for one of your academic slides and did not use it in the last quarter).

I hope this helps. Please continue to email me with any questions you may have.
Monday, March 16, 2020
Good Morning! We are all home working today and the good news is that you can reach me on your computer anytime. Simply email me, or attach your work in google classroom with your question and I will respond as soon as possible. As you know, we have one more day of work scheduled to finish our Digital Citizenship posters; we will do that when we return to school. In the meantime, you have one more assignment to complete in Quarter 3. Please open the 2 attachments for detailed instructions.

Project 8: Alice
For our next look at coding this year in the 7th grade at Scofield Magnet Middle School, we will be
using a slightly more complex environment that was created at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, called Alice. We are using the most recent version and it is certainly more of a
challenge than Scratch, but once you begin to understand the program you can actually create
3D animated videos.
Here is where YOU can locate Alice, if you would like to try it home. Remember to check with your parents when downloading and ONLY use Alice.org as the location to download it – nowhere else!
https://www.alice.org/
We have been using Alice as a programming tool for nine years here at Scofield and have had some excellent results. Since we are a technology school, every student uses Alice here at Scofield MMS.
We are using Alice versions 3.1 and 3.2.  The current version that is available is 3.3 if you want to try
this at home.

Basic Requirements:
  • There must be five camera changes.
  • At least two characters (you can do more) having a dialogue.
  • A background and props to act out the scene.
  • Your story acted out on the stage in Alice using a math path theme!

Project 5: Tech/ Digital Literacy & Art/ Masks
Mrs. Beutler & Ms. Robertson are sharing classrooms! Students have been working in the Tech Lab with Ms. Robertson on a lesson about Digital Literacy. On March 4, students will begin working with Mrs. Beutler in the Art room. They will learn about sculpture by making a stylized mask using plaster gauze to cast a mask, referring to the style of Carnival Masks. Students will discuss Carnival Masks noting the emphasis on fantasy, stylization, and the abstraction of features. They will learn how masks are used throughout history and in various civilizations. They will begin this project by researching masks from their own culture or from another culture on the Internet. They will select one to use as their “inspiration mask” in art, and changed it in some fashion to personalize their mask.
